Who we are…

Forest Architecture is a design-led architect based in Lymington, working throughout the New Forest and coastal and rural areas across the south of England.

We design contemporary buildings that respond carefully to their setting, from historic town centres and village streets to countryside and coastal locations.

Our projects range from new homes, extensions and refurbishments to residential properties to sensitive alterations to heritage buildings. We work in complex settings in sensitive landscapes, always balancing creative design with a clear understanding of context and planning requirements.

Architecture in Somerset

We are architects with projects in Somerset, working across rural landscapes, historic towns and sensitive settings. Our approach is rooted in context, heritage, and craft—delivering architecture that responds carefully to its surroundings while meeting the needs of contemporary living.

From listed buildings and conservation areas to new homes in the countryside, we bring a thoughtful and considered approach to every project. Somerset’s rich architectural heritage requires a careful and informed approach. As conservation architects in Somerset, we work with listed buildings, historic structures, and sites within conservation areas, balancing preservation with practical and sensitive design.

“Natalie and her team at Forest Architecture are creative, pragmatic and brilliantly capable. Without their hands-on guidance, advice and counsel we would never have managed to sympathetically modernise and improve our grade-II listed home”

Our Work in Somerset

We have experience navigating listed building consent and working alongside local authorities to ensure that proposals respect the character and significance of each site. Much of our work in Somerset is shaped by its rural setting—from open countryside to villages defined by local materials and long-established building traditions.

We design buildings that respond to:

  • Agricultural and rural contexts

  • Local materials such as stone, brick, and thatch

  • The relationship between buildings and landscape

Our aim is to create architecture that feels grounded in its setting, whether through subtle extension, careful restoration, or new intervention.

Our Approach

Every project begins with an understanding of place—its history, material character, and landscape. We work closely with clients, consultants, and craftspeople to develop designs that are both practical and enduring.

This approach results in architecture that is carefully considered at every scale, from overall form to the finest detail.
