Heritage, Residential & Commercial
Bringing Architectural Excellence to Protected Landscapes and Historic Assets across the Test Valley.
Ringwood is home to some of the New Forest’s most significant timber-framed heritage. Working within this historic market town requires an architecture of 'repair and reveal.' Our work on the Old Cottage in Ringwood - a Grade II listed building—serves as a benchmark for how we approach dwellings of this era, where the structural honesty of the timber frame is the primary architectural driver.
Breathability & Lime Renders: A common issue in Ringwood’s historic core is the use of modern, non-breathable cements on old frames. We advocate for the use of traditional lime plasters and breathable insulation (such as wood fibre), which allow the timber to 'breathe,' preventing rot and improving the internal climate.
Negotiating Significance: We navigate the Listed Building Consent process by proving that our interventions - from window repairs to floor-plan shifts - protected the building’s 'special architectural interest' while making it fit for 21st-century living.
Location: Ringwood, New Forest National Park Designation: Grade II Listed / Conservation Area
“The relationship between materials and their setting, creates a sense of belonging and grounds our buildings within their landscape. How these materials adjoin and sit alongside one another as well as how they appear against the backdrop of the landscape in which they are rooted, is of particular interest to how we operate as a practice.”
